He may not be good enough for the best clubs in Europe now but if you don't think he was when he was in his prime then you simply have no idea what you're talking about.
At 18, 19 years old he was unplayable. He went for £26m when he was a teenager. Any club in the world would have taken him - he was that good. And if he'd been transferred on a year or two later he would've been close IMO to being the most expensive players ever (at the time).

That would be the semi final that Man Utd lost? Good decision from Ferguson that.

In my opinion English footballers are not good enough for the top clubs in europe because they are poorly trained and lack technique.
Anyone who has managed a youth football team in England knows why: from a very early age the focus is on aggression and physical size.
If you're big for your age you're in the team. If you're hard you're in the team. But if you're a bit small or a bit timid you're on the bench.
As a result the English youth football system is a production line of aggressive, physical players who can't play with their weaker foot, have a limited range of technical skills and get found out when facing technically superior opponents.
Rooney is all aggression but he gives the ball away all the time trying spectacular passes and shots that he doesn't have the skill to pull off. Every now and again one of them flies into the net and the media wets themselves.
But he was never good enough for any of the top clubs in Europe. He was even dropped by SAF (in favour of Welbeck!) in the Champions League semi final against Real.
You can't look at England's record - two semi finals in 50 years, both of which we lost - and still conclude that we are producing players of the right quality. We aren't.
Actually I think it's embarrassing that a player as poor as Rooney is held up as England's greatest player. He has had so many tournaments leading the line for England and failed in all of them. When was the last time a tournament ended with everyone raving about how brilliant Rooney was ?

Completely different as it's well known that Ronaldo forced the move. I don't remember very many reported bids for Scholes either, maybe he was shit too. The fact is you've suggested that a player receiving no bids is evidence of how shit they are, I'm giving evidence of how that's complete bollocks.

Only on WHO would you have a load of people calling a 30 year old with 250 career goals already, average.
No doubt the best way to know what a player he is would be to ask Man Utd season ticket holders who see him play every week what they think of him, as it's safe to say they've seen some fucking good players these past 20 years.
They think he's mustard by the way.

Cristiano Ronaldo was also playing for Man Utd when Real came in for him.Did you type without engaging your brain?
And as we all know De Gea is headed for Spain too.
If you're a game changing player you will be the subject of bids from the European elite. Rooney has never got anyone interested.

"But he has that and more, with three centre-halves in Winston Reid, James Collins and Angelo Ogbonna, and also with full-backs Aaron Cresswell and Manuel Lanzini"
How in the world does he think Lanzini is a full-back???

He would've gone for a record sum if he'd been transferred when he was at his peak - 12 years ago. He's obviously well past his best but you don't break all the records he's done and win the trophies he's done if you're shit.

Mad Dog, I'm with you.
Can't understand the hype about Rooney at all.
When the big clubs in Europe spotted Gareth Bale they snapped him up for £100m.
I must have missed the attempts by Barca, Real Madrid and Bayern to land Rooney over the years.
That tells you everything you need to know.

Rooney is such a waste of talent - he looked like media at 16, you couldn't get the ball off him and he looked like he could score from anywhere.
He still seems to be rated based on that, when he never fulfilled that potential. But he's still a very good player
And always scores against us. The cunt

If we'd stayed injury free maybe we wouldn't have seen the great form of Antonio. Where would we be without his goals?
